Want to Work in
the Oilfields?
PST (Petroleum Safety Training) & CSTS
(Construction Safety Training System)
To work in the oilfields, workers need at least two
safety certifications.
-
According to the
Fort McMurray Labour Market
http://www.woodbuffalo.net/safety.htm
CSTS Certification is
mandatory on industrial work sites.
-
CSTS Certification is
available
at the Sunshine Coast Employment Centre. It is part of an interactive computer program.
Upon successful completion of the program you will receive
certification from ENFORM. The certification will include Basic WHMIS, PST /CSTS.
-
PST stands for
Petroleum Safety Training
-
CSTS stands for
Construction Safety Training System
-
The Construction
and Petroleum industries have agreed to recognize each others basic
safety training, so this dual certification will allow you on both
construction and oilfield work sites.
-
To register for
the PST/CSTS program contact the PST Administrator by phoning
604-885-7443 or by
email. The cost of the program is $110 plus GST. The usual
time spent in the program is 11 hours.
-
H2S is another
certification you need. This training teaches you how to recognize
the dangers involved with Hydrogen Sulphide and the procedures to
get yourself and your coworkers to safety.
